The Social Computing Research Center (http://socialcomputing.eu) invites you to the summer school of the EU-funded Research Projects INCOGNITO: IdeNtity verifiCatiOn with privacy-preservinG credeNtIals for anonymous access To Online services (https://incognito.
Summer School Workshops:
- “Innovation in Attribute-based Authentication” by INCOGNITO (6th of July 2023)
- “Negotiation Skills for Research Projects and Project Management in Cybersecurity Summer School” by SECONDO (7th of July 2023).
The summer school will take place on the 6th and 7th of July 2023 (Thursday and Friday), from 08:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the Cyprus University of Technology facilities and in the building Themistocleous (https://maps.app.goo.gl/G5SWCkREs36pe8Zr6) at Pefkios Georgiades Amphitheatre.
The overarching goal of INCOGNITO is to combine state-of-the-art technologies in a platform that allows users to easily understand what is needed to access online services with respect to their privacy and be able to prove specific attributes of their identity or their whole identity. We build on top of the framework being developed under the ReCRED project. We use advanced mobile software to convert online and physical identity proofs into validated and cryptographically strong proofs of identities that can be used to access Online Services.
INCOGNITO has the following objectives: 1. Design and implement an infrastructure that supports qualified anonymity (QA) by leveraging state-of-the-art cryptographic credentials schemes and Federated Login solutions. 2. Design and implement an Identity Acquisition and Management platform that will allow the user to quickly and securely acquire identity attributes from Physical ID documents and Online Identities. 3. Design and implement an advanced UI/UX AI-based assistant that will guide and inform the user about aspects of his identity management as well as possible actions to take. 4. Evaluate the results of the project through two pilot activities.
SECONDO project addresses the question, “How can decisions about cyber security investments and cyber insurance pricing be optimized?” SECONDO supports professionals seeking cybersecurity investments, developed to support human decision-making, and a complete well-founded security strategy. This is a timely research problem, as the rapid growth of cyber-attacks is expected to continue its upwards trajectory. Such growth presents a prominent threat to normal business operations and the EU society itself. On the other hand, an interesting, well-known finding is that an organization’s computer systems may be less secure than a competitor’s, despite spending more money securing them. In the face of uncertainties, budget setting, security investment choices, and cyber insurance are highly challenging tasks with massive business implications. Also, the SECONDO project aims to impact the operation of EU businesses that often: (i) have a limited cyber security budget; and (ii) ignore the importance of cyber insurance. Cyber security can play a critical role in the mitigation of cyber risk. This can be done by imposing a cost on firms’ cyber risk through a premium they have to pay and the potential for paying a smaller premium should they reduce their current cyber security risk. The SECONDO project is also cross-disciplinary, combining mathematical and engineering insights to empower innovative software. Apart from the novel research results, the project offers a software platform to narrow the gap between theoretical understanding and practice.
An inter-sectorial and interdisciplinary secondment program for Experienced and Early Stage Researchers that fosters knowledge exchange is proposed to achieve the above objectives for the two projects. Academic partners will offer expertise in online identity acquisition and management, machine-learning algorithms, user experience assessment, and designing and describing proposed methodologies and software development. Industrial partners will provide expertise in cutting-edge IT security technologies, production-level development processes, exposure to an industrial research environment, and relevant business issues and data.
The INCOGNITO and SECONDO project consortia include partners from member countries of the European Union:
- UNIVERSITY OF PIRAEUS RESEARCH CENTER (UPRC): Greece,
- UNIVERSITY OF SURREY (SURREY): United Kingdom,
- UBITECH LIMITED (UBI): Cyprus,
- LSTECH ESPANA SL (LST): Spain,
